City mayor Sanjay More told reporters here today that this is the 26th year of the marathon, organised by the Thane Municipal Corporation.
"For the first time, 'time technology' will be used where in electronic chips will be embedded in the shoes of athletes to record accurate timings," he added.
The event will be held in nine groups and prizes worth Rs nine lakh will be distributed. There will be separate events for senior citizens, he said.
The marathon will be flagged off by district guardian minister Eknath Shinde in the presence of Deputy Chairman of Maharashtra Legislative Council Vasant Davkhare while Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray will remain present for the prize distribution ceremony, More said.
