Angad Bedi believes the demarcation between the main lead and supporting characters are a thing of the past.
The actor, whose career got a new lease of life after ensemble courtroon drama "Pink", says nowadays a film's identity and recall value is dependent on its characters rather than its lead star.
In an interview to PTI, Angad says, "Cinema has changed. The concept of main lead, second lead and third lead is gone. Films are character-based, stories are written about the characters. The movies are remembered because of them."
Citing the example of last years' hit, "Kapoor & Sons", which featured Fawad Khan, Sidharth Malhotra, Rishi Kapoor, Ratna Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt, Angad says multiple leads in movies are the way to go.
"Now, we have two or three hero films. The shift has come. If the characters are powerful, then it is great. What is the use of a lead who does not do anything and the side actors have to do everything? There should be a balance."
Angad may have been in the film industry since 2011, but he says his career took a 360 degree turn after "Pink last year.
The 34-year-old actor says he is indebted to the film's producer Shoojit Sircar for casting him in "Pink", which has helped him bag other major projects like Salman Khan's "Tiger Zinda Hai" and web series "Inside Edge", produced by Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment.
"The journey has been very special. 'Pink' changed my fortune. Sometimes when you least expect things, they happen. After working with Amitabh Bachchan (in 'Pink'), I will be now going to star alongside Salman."
And Angad already declares "Tiger Zinda Hai", which will release in December, as the biggest film of the year.
"Working with Salman is a surreal experience. 'Tiger Zinda Hai' will be the biggest film of the year."
Spilling the beans on his character, Angad says it is a positive role.
"I play Major Namit Khanna. It is a phenomenal character and it is positive."
Angad-starrer series "Inside Edge", which is available on Amazon Prime, is the story of the Mumbai Mavericks, a T20 cricket franchise playing in the Powerplay League. The actor plays team captain Arvind Vashishth and he says the maturity of the character is what attracted him to it.
"When I read about my role, I immediately wanted to play it. I am young but I have played a very mature character. Arvind keeps his emotions in check. He is caring and he loves his team.
