Four people, including three Chinese working as sub- engineers at a private power plant, were rounded up at Kosamnara railway crossing when they were transporting beef in an SUV, Raigarh Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Praphulla Thakur told PTI.
A police team stopped the vehicle during a routine check and found 55kg of beef kept in an ice box, he said.
Those arrested were identified as Xao Ju Ying (53), Liang Chao Wen (50) and Qu Xhexiang (53), all working at Athena Chhattisgarh Power Ltd in Singhitarai area of Raigarh district, and the driver Hemant Chouhan.
During interrogation, Chouhan said they had purchased the meat from Jharsuguda (Odisha) and were going to the company's guest house in Dhurkot area for consuming it, he added.
All four have been booked under the Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, 2004 which prohibits the sale and storage of beef, the police officer said.
The Union Home Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Delhi have been informed about the incident, Thakur added.
