Three teenager girls, who were part of a group of picnickers, drowned into Bay of Bengal today, police said.
The mishap occurred at Tantadi beach when five girls, out of the group of thirty, ventured into water but got pulled deeper inside due to strong current, said Elamanchili police station Inspector K Venkat Rao.
While two of them drowned, fishermen in the vicinity managed to save the rest. However, one of them died while undergoing treatment at Anakapalle hospital, he said.
All the girls belonged to Chuchukonda village.
The deceased are identified as Satyabhavani and Monika (both 16) and Sravani, police said.
