Ramanathagurukkal and wife Kumuda, residents of Punnainellur in Tanjavur district, were coming to the city in connection with the marraige of their son in a car, when the driver lost control dashed against a tree.
While the husband died on the spot, the passersby rushed Kumuda and the driver Senthil to the Government Hospital.
However, the woman died on admission, they said.
In another accident, a lorry driver was killed when the vehicle fell into a 60-foot deep gorge at an hairpin bend on Kotagiri Road, near Mettupalayam, about 45 KMs from here this morning.
