Three Maoist cadres today surrendered before the state Police here today taking the figure to nine this year.
They were identified as Joseph Munda (35), Siprien Munda (29) and Panallal Bhakta (17). The trio was part of the Chotanagpur Division and active in the
Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundergarh division.
Joseph was involved in the murder of Deonath Singh at Langalkanta village, ANM Centre blast case and Sanabalijore school building blast case.
"I was partly forced and also influenced by the Maoists. But, when I saw their top leaders enjoying lives at the cost of the poor people, I decided to quit the outfit," Joseph told reporters.
Sipiren was working in Exon Steel at Jharsuguda, after quiting the Maoist outfit. He was involved in the blast of school buildings at Sanabalijore and Relhatu.
"I was forced to join the organisation as they put a gun on my father's head. For sometime, I thought I was in the right place. But, gradually I could understand what they were doing. It was nothing, but amassing huge money and stopping all the development works coming to our region," he said.
Panallal was active in the jungles of Sambalpur and Deogarh districts where he used to cook for the cadres.
"Thoroughly disillusioned, I left the organisation this year," he said.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Rourkela, Subash Chandra Jamadar, said, "We generally keep track of them through our sources. Besides, we also try to influence them for surrender. When they came to know about the policies of the government, the Maoists came forward to surrender.
