A joint team of Central Reserve Police Force and district police was on an area-domination operation in Pispera, Pakela, Pusbaka and Kottaguda villages of the restive Basaguda region, located over 400 kms away from the state capital Raipur, late last evening, a senior police officer told PTI.
"When the security personnel reached near the forest of Pusbaka village, the Left extremists opened indiscriminate firing on them, following which they launched retaliatory attack," he said.
Exchange of fire continued for around one hour, after which the Naxals fled into the deep jungle, he said.
Those arrested were identified as Tati Kamlu (22), a jan militia commander, Potam Aytu (40) and Tati Sukku (45), Sangham members of outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), he said adding, claymore bomb, pitthu (bag) containing explosives and wire recovered from their possession.
A case has been registered for attempt to murder against the arrested, he said.
