Three minor girls of a tribal family drowned while taking bath in a pond at Badbilla village in Mayurbhanj district Tuesday.
The three sisters, aged between 8 and 12 years, lost their lives when they slipped deep into the water of the nearby pond, Inspector in-Charge of Baripada Sadar police station, Swarnalata Minz said.
The children were fished out of the pond by villagers and rushed to the PRM Medical college and Hospital where doctors declared them brought dead, he said.
The deceased were identified as Parvati Murmu (12), Rajeswari Murmu (8) and Sarita Murmu (10).
A case of unnatural death has been registered, the IIC said.
