Three women killed, 1 critically hurt after being hit by car

Three women were killed and one was critically injured after they were run over by a speeding car here in the early hours today, police said.
The car driver was later arrested, they said.
The victims, belonging to Jalgaon in Maharashtra, had come to the city last evening for a marriage function of a relative. After attending a pre-wedding ceremony in Kailashnagar area last night, the women were going to Chikuwadi to stay at a relative's home.
"When the four women were walking towards Chikuwadi from Kailashnagar, a speeding car hit them from behind at around 12.20 AM in Pandesara area. Locals claimed that one of the women got dragged along with the car for almost 500 metres before the vehicle stopped," Pandesara's police sub-inspector S M Vasava said.

The locals nabbed car driver Sagar Mahajan (20) and called the police, he said.
"Three of the women died on the spot, while one received critical injuries. She is now being treated at the civil hospital. We have arrested Mahajan and started further procedure. His blood test revealed that he was not under the influence of alcohol," said Vasava.
The deceased were identified as Kamala Patil (50), her sister Shobha Patil (43) and their relative Mangala Patil (45).
An offence has been registered against the car driver under relevant sections for causing death due to rash driving, police added.
