Heatwave condition continued to prevail in the southern districts of West Bengal today, even as the weatherman held out some hope of the situation abating with thundersqualls predicted in isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal in the next two days.
Temperatures in the southern districts hovered over 40 degrees celsius, with the metropolis recording 41.2 degrees Celsius, the highest in a decade for the month of April, according to the MeT department.
Holding out hope for the parched land, the MeT department said, "Thudersqualls with wind speed reaching between 50 to 60 km per hour accompanied with lighting and hail may occur at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal."
The same has been predicted for the next two days.
The Met department, however, said heatwave condition may also prevail at isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal for the next two days.
Meanwhile, power demand peaked today at 1,884 MW in the city, the highest this year, sources in the power utility CESC said.
