Alleging arm-twisting and intimidation by Trinamool Congress, a CPI(M) candidate tonight said that its agents were driven out and its party office ransacked during the Howrah Lok Sabha by-poll.
CPI(M) candidate Sridip Bhattacharjee said while polling passed off peacefully during first half of the day, later on armed TMC men allegedly beat up party supporters at Liluah and ransacked the party office even as polling was in progress in the area during the afternoon.
"Also in one booth our agent was driven out and even could not submit his complaint to the presiding officer," he alleged, adding, malpractices took place in 83 booths.
The booths which witnessed unfair practices fell in North Howrah, Bally, Sankrail (SC), Panchla and South Howrah segments, Bhattacharjee told a press meet.
Police said there was no official complaint. TMC sources pooh-poohed the charges contending the Marxists were concocting stories.
The TMC fielded former India football captain Prasun Banerjee against Congress candidate lawyer Sanatan Mukherjee.
