The Trinamool Congress today observed 'black day' throughout West Bengal to mark the first anniversary of demonetisation with party leaders and state ministers leading protest marches and workers burning effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee described demonetisation as "DeMoDisaster" and turned her Twitter display picture black, today.
Banerjee also retweeted her yesterday's post on Facebook alleging that the note ban was a "big scam" which was announced to help vested interests convert black money into white money.
West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim led a march in Chetla area of Kolkata. Posters against demonetisation and its impact on the Indian economy were displayed at the protest march.
Describing note ban as a "big scam", Hakim claimed that many people lost their lives, lakhs of people became unemployed and the GDP of the country decreased.
"All these happened due to the whimsical decision of Narendra Modi," he alleged.
Other state ministers including Partha Chatterjee, Sovandeb Chattopadhaya, Subrata Mukherjee, Sashi Panja also led similar protest marches at Jadavpur, Esplanade, Gariahat and Shyambazar.
