TMC leadership will seek a clarification from state Consumer Affairs Minister Sadhan Pande over his reported remarks that no elected representative should hold a post in college governing committees, which had kicked up a controversy.
"Sadhan Pande should not have made such comments in public. There is an appropriate forum for that. We will seek answers from him on why he did it," state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said.
Pande had yesterday said, "No elected representative should hold a post in college governing committees."
The senior TMC leader's comments had come in the backdrop of suspension of classes at S A Jaipuria College here on August 26 due to fights between two factions of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad.
However, it was decided that the Part I examination of Calcutta University would continue. The college is affiliated to the university.
The authorities of the college had decided to suspend classes, claiming there was threat to the safety of staff and students due to ongoing clashes in the college campus.
The suspension of classes was withdrawn after Chatterjee's intervention.
