A team of officials from the sub-divisional land revenue department, pulled down posters, flags and banners of the TMC put up in front of a polling booth here, as per the Election Commission directive, police said.
Workers "belonging to TMC" then arrived at the spot and allegedly abused and assaulted the officials, they said.
Howrah DM Subhanjan Das ordered SDO Baniprasad Das to look into the officials' complaint in which, they have, however, not mentioned any political party's name, sources said.
The Election Commission has directed the district administration to conduct an inquiry by a Special Investigation Team consisting of the Additional SP and SDPO.
So far 15 persons have been arrested in the BDO assault incident.
