A Trinamool Youth Congress (TMYC) worker was fired at and injured after being called out of his home at Basanti in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district in a feud between two groups of TMC and two persons were detained in connection with it.
Hasim alias Ijaz Ahmed was called out of his home at around midnight last night and the bullet fired at him injured his right shoulder.
Police rushed to the spot and two TMC workers, including the son of the party's block president Mannan Gazi named Raja was detained in connection with it, Baruipur superintendent of police Arijit Sinha said.
Ahmed was rushed to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, where his condition was stated to be stable.
Today TMYC supporters in protest allegedly vandalised and looted the houses of a number of TMC workers and set fire to a kuchha house.
They also blocked the roads in the area and protested against the incident.
TMC blamed TMYC for today's violence but TMYC leaders, when contacted denied the party's role in it.
When asked Sinha said there was no report of vandalising of houses. However, there was report of a house being partially damaged but no loot.
Police picket has been posted at Basanti, he added.
