TNPCB seals 23 dyeing units in Tirupur district

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) today sealed 23 dyeing units attached to a Common Effluent Treatment Plant in nearby Tirupur, for allegedly polluting Noyyal river, the lifeline of three districts.
The action was initiated following a complaint by a section of villagers who alleged that coloured water was being discharged into the river from the plant at Kasipalayam, police said.
Though investigations with the dyers revealed that there was a burst in the pipe, resulting in the leakage, the villagers managed to prove that the effluents were discharged during night.
The villagers further claimed that the dyeing units took advantage of the rains and released the effluents into the river so that the colour would be diluted, police said.

Hence, the board ordered the suspension of production work in 23 units until further orders.
