Jordan Vogt-Roberts of "The Kings of Summer" fame is directing the creature feature, said The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will tell the tale of a team of explorers, who venture into the mysterious, creature-laden isle that is also the home of the king of the apes.
Screenwriter Derek Connolly has been brought on to work on the project as it heads toward a late-October production start in Hawaii.
