The 54-year-old actor has previously been seen shooting with "Peaky Blinders" star Annabelle Wallis, reported Digital Spy.
Cruise's role is expected to follow in the footsteps of the archaeologist Rick O'Connell famously played by Brendan Fraser in the 1999 film.
Sofia Boutella will play the actual Mummy, while Russell Crowe is reportedly lined up to appear as Dr Jekyll in a cameo - before getting his own solo film.
Not much is known about The Mummy's plot, other than it's set in the present day.
"The Mummy" is scheduled for release on June 9, 2017.
