Tomar, Aher record upset wins to enter semis

Unseeded Sanket Tomar of Chandigarh and Salsa Aher of Maharashtra scored upset wins to enter the singles semi-finals at the 10th MSLTA-Yonex Sunrise Ramesh Desai Under16 Tennis Nationals here today.
In the quarter final matches, Tomar upset third-seeded Abhimanyu Vannemreddy of Telangana 6-3 6-4 to make it to the last four stage in boys singles.
Tomar will take on no. 8 seed Sacchitt Sharma, who outplayed Ashutosh Tiwari 6-2 6-2 in another quarter-final, for a berth in the final.
Top seed Siddhant Banthia of Maharashtra also moved smoothly into the last four.
Banthia whipped Gujarat's Dev Javia 6-1 6-3 and would face fourth seed S M Aditya of Tamil Nadu, who ended the challenge of host state's Karan Srivastava 6-2 6-2, in the semi-final.
In the girls' event, 16th seed Salsa Aher from Pune upset no.11 Dedeepya Sai of Telangana 6-3 6-2 to make it to the semi-finals.
The left-handed girl would lock horns with second seed Vaidehi Chaudhari of Gujarat for a place in the final.
The Gujarat girl trounced Shreya Gulia of Delhi 6-2 6-1.
Top seed Sama Sathwika of Telangana scored a fluent 6-3 6-4 win over Prinkle Singh of Jammu and Kashmir in another quarter-final clash.
In the semi-finals, Sama will take on state mate and fourth seed Shivani Amineni who got past seventh seed Tanisha Kashyap of Assam 6-3 6-3.
Boys' doubles (semi finals): Amit Beniwal/Sacchitt Sharrma (Del) bt 3-Karan Srivastava (Mah)/Abhimanyu Vannemreddy (TS) 6-4 6-4; Rishabh Sharda/Naithaolin Golmei (Chd) bt Adithya SM (TN)/Himanshu Mor (HR) 4-6 6-3 10-0.
Girls' doubles (semi finals): Amineni Shivani/Shivani Sravya (TS) bt Bhakti Parwani (Guj)/Kiran Kalkal (Del) 6-4 6-2; Prinkle Singh (J and K)/Vaidehi Chaudhari (Guj) bt Akanksha Bhan/Aesha Hiten Patel (Guj) 6-3 1-6 10-7.
