Trade Marks Registry official among 3 convicted in graft case

A CBI court here today convicted and sentenced three persons, including a former Deputy Registrar of Trade Marks Registry, in a corruption case.
The Anti Corruption Branch of CBI, had registered a case in 2011 against ND Kasturi, the then Deputy Registrar, Trade Marks Registry, Chennai, for allegedly accepting illegal gratification from M B Ganesh and K Sanjay, both private persons, for issuing Trade Mark Certificate "by abusing her official position," a CBI release said.
V Sofana Devi, Additional Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai, convicted Kasturi and the two others today, it said.
Kasturi was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment of two years and slapped a fine of Rs 28,000, while Ganesh and Sanjay were awarded two years' RI and a fine of Rs 6000 each.
