A trader was abducted at gunpoint from Khariobari weekly market near Batachipur in Assam's Sonitpur district today, police sources said.
Four armed miscreants waylaid the trader, Arab Ali, around noon from the market under Dhekiajuli Police Station and took Ali away, the sources said.
A search operation has been launched by a joint team of police, army and paramilitary forces to rescue the trader and net the gang, they said.
NDFB (Songbijit) militants were active in the northern part of the district from Hugrajuli to Gohpur, sources said.
