The shops and other business establishments in and around the business hub of Lal Chowk here remained shut throughout the day on account of the strike called by Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF).
KTMF alleged that the government was "discriminatory" against the Valley traders and was not doing anything to compensate for their losses which they incurred due to the deluge that hit the Valley in September last year.
Separatist leader and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik and others also joined their protest rally.
The association has called for suspension of VAT and income tax towards the government till traders were rehabilitated.
