Traffic advisory issued for construction of South Ex Metro Stn

Anticipating traffic congestion on Ring Road due to construction of South Extension Metro Station, a traffic advisory for diversions and alternative routes was today issued to ensure smooth flow of traffic around the Metro Phase III project site.
The traffic diversions will come into effect from Wednesday.
General traffic on modified carriageway of Ring Road around construction site will ply on six-lane divided carriageway.
Commercial vehicles coming from IIT, Yusaf Sarai side from 2130 hrs to 0730 hrs will not be allowed to take right turn on Ring Road. They may take left turn towards Moti Bagh on Ring Road, the advisory said.

The Metro Rail Corporation had already started work for new Metro Line Phase-III, Line-7 from Mukandpur to Shiv Vihar for which DMRC is constructing South Extension Metro Station on southern carriage of Ring Road opposite South Extension Market by 'Cut and Cover' method. The work will take around 2.5 years.
DMRC has planned to provide 11 meters wide modified carriageway on both sides of central verge on Ring Road instead of 14 meters presently available for the motorists following which traffic congestion is likely to occur on Ring Road around the construction site from AIIMS flyover up to Andrews Ganj flyover in both directions, the advisory said.

"Due to diversion, all public transport buses moving to and fro South Extension will now use the surface carriageway instead of the flyover," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla.
Commercial vehicles coming from Naraina on Ring Road going towards Ashram may take right turn on Dhaula Kuan and either use Outer Ring Road to reach Ashram while those coming from Badarpur via Ashram going towards Dhaula Kuan may take Modi Mill flyover - Outer Ring Road to reach Dhaula Kuan, the advisory said.
Adequate signages have been provided on roads to guide general motorists. DMRC will deploy adequate marshals to facilitate traffic movement in affected areas, police said.
