AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa today led her party workers in paying tributes to party founder M G Ramachandran on the occasion of his 98th birth anniversary.
The former Chief Minister paid floral tributes to a portrait of Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR, while the party's Presidium Chairman, E Madhusudhanan, garlanded a statue of the late leader at the party headquarters here.
A special souvenir was also released on the occasion.
Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his cabinet colleagues garlanded a statue of MGR in the city.
All over the state, Ramachandran was remembered on the occasion, with the former Tamil cinema superstar's songs being played through loudspeakers on streets by his followers.
Ramachandran, a charismatic actor-turned politician, founded the AIADMK in 1972 after his expulsion from DMK following differences with its chief M Karunanidhi and stormed to power in the elections five years later. He remained the Chief Minister till his death in December 1987.
DMDK founder Vijayakant also paid floral tributes to Ramachandran.
