With Tripura facing a huge power shortage, state Power minister Manik Dey today asked the general managers of Palatana and Manarchak power projects to commission their projects at the earliest.
Dey held a meeting with the general manager of Palatana Power project, Mukul Banerjee and Manarchak Power project, Samar Biswas at the civil secretariat and asked them to commission their projects at the earliest, official sources said.
Tripura needs around 220 MW of electricity but the supply stands at only 70 MW leading to huge shortfall in the power supply.
The full-load trial run of the first unit was supposed to start by February but could not take place due to mechanical faults on boiler turbine, Banerjee said.
"The entire boiler turbine has been dismantled after it developed mechanical faults in course of dry run. The BHEL engineers, however, have been working round the clock to remove the fault," the general manager said.
Banerjee said they plan to undertake full-load trial run by end of May to pave the way for commercial run of the first unit of the 726 MW power plant.
The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) mulled proposed power project at Manarchak in Sonamura subdivision is expected to be commissioned by August next.
"Of the total 28 Over Dimensional Cargos (ODCs), altogether 23 have been taken to the spot while remaining are on the way," said General Manager of Manarchak power project Samar Biswas.
