Tripura unit of ONGC doubles gas production

The Tripura unit of ONGC has doubled its gas production in last four years and has taken measures to further augment production for sustainable supply to consumers, a ONGC official said today.
ONGC has more than doubled its production from 6,450 lakh cubic meters in 2012-13 to 13,820 lakh cubic meters in 2016-17, presently supplying to gas consumers at 45 lakh cubic meters per day, the spokesperson said.
"The Tripura unit has taken initiative for augmenting its resources, expanding its resourcebase and expanding its operational activities across Tripura", ONGC spokesperson Sonali Dutta said.
As part of enhancing drilling activities, the rig fleet has been increased from three rigs in 2015-16 to seven rigs in 2016-17, with one more rig under tendering stage.
With the addition of these rigs, the number of wells drilled in the state has gone up from 10-12 wells in 2015-16 to 15 wells in 2016-17 and it is further planned to go up to 22 wells per year in next three years, she said.
ONGC Tripura Asset is also augmenting its gas processing capacity from 49.

5 lakh cubic meters per day in 2016-17 by commissioning of Sonamura Gas Collection Station (GCS).
Further it is setting up Gojalia GCS of 5 lakh cubic meters per day capacity, 25 km from Sabroom, which is expected to be operational by April 2019.
Additionally it is enhancing processing capacity of ADB GCS from existing 22 lakh cubic meters per day to 27.5 lakh cubic meters per day, which is planned to be completed by 2018, she added.
ONGC has been operational in Tripura since 1972 and continues to be a proud partner in the progress and development of the state by exploring/ producing from available gas reserves in Tripura state.
In response to a recent media report on 'Shifting of Basin from Tripura to Assam', she said ONGC has no plans of shifting its Agartala Forward Base office from Tripura to any other place.
Agartala forward base office is being strengthened with additional resources to take care of thrust in exploration activities in Tripura, the official said.
Presently, ONGC has deployed three drilling rigs exclusively for exploration drilling operations in eastern part of Tripura at Khubal, Manu & Dholai areas.
A work station has already been established in Agartala for effective G&G interpretation studies, the official said.
