Lok Sabha MP of TRS K Kavitha has started an online social media campaign to promote use of helmet among two-wheel riders.
As part of her brother K T Rama Rao's birthday, who is also Telangana's IT Minister, Kavitha kick-started the campaign
'Sisters4Change'#GiftAHelmet' yesterday.
In the campaign launched just ahead of the festival of Raksha Bandhan, the MP from Nizamabad has appealed to all sisters in the country to tie rakhi and gift a helmet to their brothers.
"On my brother's birthday, initiating a campaign for the safety of the brothers across India," tweeted Kavitha, who is daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
"Almost everyday about 400 two wheeler riders die in road accidents across the country because they don't wear helmets," she said.
"Anguished by the number of two-wheeler accidents. I would like to make a serious effort to save some lives.JoinMe," she tweeted.
Kavitha said, "It is the need of hour to safeguard our brothers and rewrite the tradition by gifting them a helmet this rakhi. As the number of deaths in two-wheeler accidents are much higher than the terrorist attacks."
Rama Rao retweeted Kavitha's tweet and appreciated the cause.
Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal supported the campaign.
