A delegation of truckers today met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, seeking his intervention into the situation emerging after National Green Tribunal's order banning over-10-year-old diesel vehicles from plying in the city.
Truckers have already threatened to stop moving goods in and out of the national capital from Tuesday against the NGT's order.
"We took up the matter before the CM Kejriwal and sought his intervention to save our livelihood. Kejriwal has assured us to consider our demand," president of Delhi Transport Association, Ravinder Singh Khurana said.
Khurana said from Monday midnight, truckers will stop plying trucks to express "disapproval" against the tribunal's order.
"No trucks will run in Delhi from Monday midnight. The strike will continue till the ban is lifted," he said.
The proposed strike would affect essential services and movement of goods and commodities.
The tribunal had directed the transport department of Delhi government and other concerned authorities to prepare a comprehensive data of registration of vehicles which are 10 or more years old.
"We have a meeting with Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari tomorrow and will also urge him to come forward to save our livelihood," Khurana said.
