"Donald Trump was not asked by the (Republican) leadership to change. And there's no reason for him to change," said Paul Manafort, top advisor to the Republican presidential presumptive nominee.
"He has just won the primary process with a record number of votes, beating a field of 16 qualified candidates. So, there's no reason for Donald Trump to change," Manafort said when asked about news reports that the party leadership has asked Trump to bringing in changes into his campaigning style which brings unity in the party.
"Which is why you had crossover Democrats, independents participating in Republican primaries where they could, even though there were spirited contests going on, on the Democratic side," he was quoted as saying by CNN.
The top aide to the presumptive nominee said the meeting between Trump and the Paul Ryan, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, early this week, went quite well.
"Now, that's not to say that Paul Ryan didn't talk about policy. They actually got along very well. The conversations that they had focused on the Trump agenda for America, to make America great again, and Paul Ryan's agenda to return prosperity. There were a lot of overlap on the objectives of both of those programmes," he said.
And this is the reason why he could garner millions of votes and win the party's nomination despite his unconventional campaign.
"I think that Donald Trump represents such a massive change to how things are done in Washington that people don't look at Donald Trump as to whether or not he releases his taxes or what this story was of 30 years ago," Priebus told ABC News.
"People look at Donald Trump and say is this person going to cause an earthquake in Washington and make something happen? That is it. That's how he is being judged by the American people," he said.
"I think people are judging Donald Trump as to whether or not he's someone that's going to go to Washington and shake things up. And that's why he's doing so well," he said.
In another interview to Fox News, Priebus said the same old analyses is not going to be applied this year.
