Punjab Education Minister Daljeet Singh Cheema today claimed that leaders who had left SAD for the Congress will desert it after being denied tickets.
"Apprehending that elected members may desert him after the polls, Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh is trying to field his henchmen as party nominees, especially his recent picks from other parties, despite resistance from Congress old guards," he said here.
The state Congress chief is under the illusion that those denied recognition in the SAD will bring laurels to the party, Cheema said.
He forgets that if they were strong enough, their parent party would not have thrown them out or treated them like deadwoods, the Minister said.
"Seasoned Congress men have understood this crude reality and are opposing nomination of turncoats like Pargat Singh, Swarn Singh Phillaur or Inderbir Singh Bularia and Navjot Kaur," he claimed.
"Amarinder is insisting that turncoats be accommodated despite opposition by party leaders. Hence, there is deadlock and delay in releasing first list of nominees," Cheema said, adding the Congress chief is aware that more than three-fourth of his catch will disappear once denied tickets.
"If turncoats can desert their parent party that nourished them for years within hours of being denied tickets, how can they remain in an outfit, which has made substantive political promise of nomination, after they are denied the same," Cheema argued.
He said how will Amarinder, who is unable to contain his herd, master his recent picks from other parties.
