Delhi police has arrested two men who were allegedly involved in an armed robbery in Sadar Bazaar area in November.
Naveen Kasana and Udayveer, both 28 years of age, were apprehended yesterday from Civil Lines area in north Delhi after police received a tip-off.
With their arrest police has claimed to have worked out the November 5, 2014, armed robbery at a metal trader's office from where the criminals had made away with Rs 26 lakh in cash and other valuables.
Police have also claimed to have foiled an attempt to kill a criminal lodged in Dasna jail in Uttar Pradesh.
On January 10, on the basis of the tip-off received by Crime Branch, a team was constituted under the supervision of ACP Sukhwinder Singh and the guidance of DCP M A Rizvi to lay a trap near Delhi Jal Board office, Baba Gopal Dass Sahib Talab Road (Khaiber Pass Road) at Civil Lines here.
"The duo arrived there in a Honda City car. Sensing the police presence, they tried to run away from the spot but the team acted swiftly and overpowered them. Two pistols alongwith 12 live cartridges, 13 mobile phones and 14 SIM cards were recovered from them," Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav said.
On their sustained interrogation Naveen disclosed that one of his alleged associates, Subodh Pandey, had passed information to him that a huge amount of money is kept by a metal trader Sanjay Gupta in his office situated near Filmistan Cinema, Sadar Bazar, the senior police official said.
He had, thereafter, concocted a plan to rob the trader with the help of a cousin of Subodh Pandey namely Karan Upadhyay who was an employee of the trader, the official said.
During his interrogation, Kasana also confessed that he was arranging poison to kill a rival gang's leader, namely Rajbir, who was an under trial prisoner in Dasna Jail, UP, police said.
