Two arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 10 lakh

The police and excise department officials arrested two drug peddlers from the Haladipadia slum here today and seized 100 gram brown sugar from their possession, police said.
The value of the contraband is estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh, the police said.
The accused are residents of the slum under the jurisdiction of Laxmisagar police station, a police officer said.
A team of four raided a house in the slum area, on the basis of a specific information, and nabbed two persons from the spot, an excise department official said, adding, the contraband was recovered while the team searched the house.

He said the brown sugar was brought to the city from Kolkata via Jaleshwar.
