The complainant, Sunil Sharma, who is also a contractor, had lodged a complaint with the CBI that the CPWD junior engineer Amit Kumar Gupta had sought Rs 10,000 bribe from him for preparing bills for a work executed by him in 2008, a CBI release said.
The bills were pending for over a year as Gupta was not measuring the constructed work executed by Sharma.
When Sharma approached Gupta for the same, the latter demanded Rs 10,000 from him through another contractor identified as Rashid Ali.
CBI later filed a charge sheet in the special court on the issue, following which the court awarded three years rigorous imprisonment each to Gupta and Ali and under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Gupta and Rs 5,000 against Ali in this regard. If they fail to pay the fine, the duo will have to undergo three months additional RI.
