The incident occurred at a building connected to the Renown Regional Medical Centre in Reno yesterday, reports said.
"We have two people confirmed deceased in the building," said Reno Police Department deputy chief Tom Robinson.
"The shooter is one of the deceased," he said, adding that the fatal wound "appears to be self-inflicted."
He gave no other details.
The incident came days after the anniversary Saturday of the Sandy Hook massacre which killed 26 people including 20 children in Newtown, Connecticut.
