Two persons were drowned Thursday in Kharkhai river in Jharkhand's Seraikela Kharsawan district, police said.
A teenager identified as Rishabh had gone to the river to take bath after celebrating Holi when he was swept away by the strong current of water, officer-in-charge of the RIT police station R N Singh said.
An ex-Navyman, Sanjeev Kumar, who was currently posted as a senior security officer at a national bank in industrial township of Adityapur, rushed to rescue the boy but he too drowned.
Later, the local residents with the help of divers recovered the bodies and rushed them to Tata Main Hospital here, where they were declared dead, Singh added.
