Police also busted a "full fledged illegal telephone exchange" being used by the a betting syndicate during the process, Sanjay Kumar Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

The gangs were allegedly operating the syndicates during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians yesterday from Sant Nagar in Burari and Karampura. A Laptop, Two TVs, 118 mobile phones, 70 mobile chargers and 100 earphone leads were recovered besides other articles.

In the first case, one Amit was arrested from Karampura on a tip off that a person having a well organised set up of phone lines is running a betting racket all over Delhi and NCR by providing current betting rate on phone lines.

He was allegedly found in possession of 113 mobile phones and 100 mobile ear phones besides other articles. His alleged partner Kamal Kumar is absconding.

"He and Kumar saw the benefits of providing betting lines to bookies as it had little risk and huge profit. The accused installed the setup and started providing betting rates to bookies on uninterrupted mobile phone lines. He further disclosed that he charges Rs 3000 to 3500 for each line," Jain said.

In the second incident, Shyam Arora and Deepak were arrested from Sant Nagar while they were allegedly booking bets from the IPL cricket match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. They had allegedly taken bets worth Rs. 38 lakh.

"Both of them had been betting on cricket matches since the past two years and started their own betting racket. Their two phones gave them ball to ball betting rates. They were taking bets on other four mobile phones," Jain said.
