With the arrest of two persons from Dwarka, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police today claimed to have busted a racket involved in supplying narcotics across NCR and recovered over 80 kg of cannabis from them.
The Crime Branch has busted an interstate racket involved in supply of narcotics substance in various parts of NCR with the arrest of Pabbar Giri (40) and Sumit (30) from Sector-13, Dwarka, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
On December 16, police received information about Giri and Sumit coming from Dwarka Mor in their car loaded with large quantity of cannabis, he said.
A trap was laid by a team and around 9.10 PM their vehicle was intercepted, he added.
"Three plastic bags containing 81.250 kg Marijuana (Ganja) were recovered from the car. A case under the NDPS Act was registered and both of them have been arrested," Yadav said.
Giri was arrested in 2012 by the Crime Branch in an Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case and was later convicted by the trial court. He came out of jail around two years back and again started supplying cannabis in Delhi and Gurgaon on a large scale, he said.
Giri used to purchase the contraband from a person named Mukesh at Rs 2,500 per kg and sold it to one of his associates in Gurgaon at Rs 3,500 per kg. His associate then sold the Cannabis in open market at Rs 8,000 per kg, the commissioner said.
Sumit is involved in bootlegging and plays in local cricket tournaments in Raghubir Nagar area where he stays and regularly receives Rs 2,000 to 2,500 per match by the organisers.
Efforts are on to arrest Mukesh also, Yadav said.
