Two middle-aged men from Mizoram were arrested here allegedly with 115 kg pseudo-ephedrine, a party drug, worth around Rs 1.2 crore, police said today.
Lianthuama Chhakchhuak (48) and Sawithanga (53), hailing from Lunglei district in the northeastern state, were apprehended from IGI airport last night, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav told reporters here.
They were carrying 115 kg of contraband in four bags, he said.
CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said the duo was intercepted by a CISF check squad when they arrived at the airport to board a flight to Guwahati.
"They told they were in furniture business. It came to light that they were carriers and get Rs one lakh on delivery of the drugs," he said.
Yadav said, "They had come to Delhi two weeks ago to receive the consignment and deliver it in Mizoram."
Chhakchhuak, a welder by profession, told police that he entered the drug trade to earn money to run his family as his income was not adequate enough, the official claimed.
He allegedly came in contact with one Robert Mafsawma, who offered him money for bringing contrabands from Delhi
Sawithanga, a carpenter by profession, is a relative of Chhakchhuak.
"Police are coordinating with the Mizoram police in order to get some help in this issue. This is the third such case of drug trafficking in the capital and second in March alone," the police official said.
