Rs 28 lakh were stolen from an ATM of State Bank of India at Vanrai in Goregaon (East) on March 10.
"During the probe we found that the ATM had not been damaged in any way," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Kiran Chavan at a press conference today.
This led the police to suspect that it was an insider job.
The investigators zeroed in on Ritesh Barge (32) and Jagdish Patel (35), who had worked with a security agency which did the job of refilling cash in the ATM.
The duo allegedly told the police that Patel, after he and Barge were fired from the job two months ago, hadn't returned the key to ATM cash box. Using the key, Barge and Patel stole the money on March 10.
Police have recovered Rs 21 lakh from them. Further probe is on.
