After receiving inputs on the movement of militants, a joint team of the Army and Assam Police launched an operation in the early hours during which a group of terrorists fired indiscriminately on them.
"The team retaliated with controlled fire and neutralised two terrorists. These terrorists were identified as Pungkha Narzary and Jwngsr Basumatary.
"Both the terrorists were of 42 batch and involved in numerous subversive activities including extortion, kidnapping and were planning to target Security Forces camps and convoys in the run-up to Independence day," an Army official said.
