The boys, aged 12 and 14, went to take bath in the lake along with their three other classmates of sixth standard at a school in Kollapalayam.
While the two, caught in the slush and marsh and were drowned, other boys came out of the tank and informed the villagers, police said.
Fire and Rescue Services who rushed to the spot recovered the dead bodies.
