The mishap took place when the bus had a head-on collision with the auto-rickshaw carrying school students back to their houses at Satamile, police said.
The auto driver and a child sitting in the front seat died on the spot and nine students travelling in the auto sustained serious injuries.
The injured were taken to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where their condition was stated to be critical, police said.
