Two senior IAS officials from Uttar Pradesh have been deemed resigned from the service for overstaying on their foreign postings.
The President is pleased to direct that Atul Bagai, a 1983 batch IAS officer, is deemed to have resigned from the Indian Administrative Service with effect from August 24, 2005, an order issued today by Department of Personnel and Training said.
He has been deemed resigned for continuing on foreign service beyond the period approved by the central government, it said.
Whereas, Sanjay Bhatia, who is from 1990 batch, is deemed to have resigned from the service with effect from March 7, 2009, for being absent without authorisation for a period exceeding one year from the date of expiry of sanctioned leave or permission, the order said.
As per official records, Bagai was posted in Bangkok in July 2000, and Bhatia was given foreign posting in January 2005.
The Centre has recently formed new rules as part of which an IAS, IPS and IFS officers overstaying on foreign assignments or remaining on unauthorised leave will lose their jobs.
The government's move came after it was noticed that some officials were not reporting back to India after completion of their foreign postings. Some of them were also proceeding on unauthorised leave soon after completing their tenure abroad.
