In a setback to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Telangana, two of its MLAs T Srinivas Yadav and Teegala Krishna Reddy announced support to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government in the state here today.
"It is painful that we are made to speak against Telangana and also told to undertake a 'bus yatra' to take up farmers' problems as if the TRS government is responsible for it. The TRS government was sworn in only three months ago," Srinivas Yadav, a TDP MLA from Sanatnagar in Hyderabad, told reporters here.
"However, it was announced that Lokesh Babu (son of TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu) would look after Telangana, as if there is no other local leadership here. Unable to digest this, we talked to Telangana Chief Minister (K Chandrasekhar Rao) to support his TRS-led government," the TDP MLA said.
TDP MLA Krishna Reddy from Maheswaram in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, said that he supported the TRS leadership to achieve a 'Golden Telangana' in the interest of people.
Another TDP MLA Prakash Goud, whose name figured among legislators supporting the TRS-led Telangana government said that he did not wish to quit the party.
After these developments, Naidu is understood to have held a meeting with senior TDP leaders from Telangana who plan to undertake a 'bus yatra' in the state from tomorrow.
"It seems like KCR (K Chandrasekhar Rao) has doubts about his government's survival. It looks as if KCR is trying to ensure his government's survival if any revolt or split happens from within. One or two weak-minded TDP members could be supporting the TRS due to threats or small requirements, but nobody does it for the sake of the people," TDP MLA A Revant Reddy said, reacting to his TDP members supporting TRS.
"TRS is enacting a drama to divert people's attention from the their resentment against the government," senior TDP MLA E Dayakar Rao said.
TDP had won 15 assembly seats after the Telangana Legislative Assembly elections held in April-May this year.
