Two terror suspects in the alleged conspiracy to kill prominent politicians and journalists in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra were released tonight after a National Investigation Agency court dropped charges against them, a lawyer representing the duo said.
"Journalist Muthi-Ur-Rehman Siddiqui and Yusuf Nalband were released from Parapanaagrahara Central Prison at around 9.30 PM after the NIA court ordered their release. The court said there is no prosecutable evidence against them," Mohammed Sultan Beary, advocate, representing the accused, told PTI.
So far, 15 persons have been arrested in the case while the remaining 10 are absconding. Siddiqui and Nalband were among those arrested in August 2012.
In its chargesheet filed in a special NIA court here on February 20 against 12 of the 15 persons, NIA had alleged the accused had hatched a conspiracy to commit terror acts in India by a LeT supported terror network based abroad and their associates in the three states.
NIA, which took over investigation in Nov 2012, had stated that charges against Siddiqui and Nalband were being dropped for lack of evidence.
