Udhampur sets up 682 school toilets in three-weeks time

Keeping in view with 'Swachh Vidalaya Abhiyan' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir has, in record of sorts, constructed 682 toilets in the schools across the district in last three weeks.
"District Administration has constructed 682 toilets in the schools across the district in last three weeks through dedicated teams working round the clock to achieve the target," a senior district officer said.
This was the result of dedicated team work under Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, who took over a last month, he added.
Another 225 school toilets are also at finishing stage which will make the total number as 907, he said, adding that the fast track construction through special inter-departmental teams was achieved keeping in view the Swachh Vidalaya targets set by the prime minister.
Education Department, Sarva Shiksha Abhayan engineering wing, Rural Development Department and other departments have worked jointly to achieve the target in 700 odd school locations in the district on a mission mode approach under supervision of Deputy Commissioner with Chief Education Officer and Assistant Commissioner Development as members.
Giving further breakup of various zones, he said in zone Babey, 33 toilets have been constructed, 141 in Chenani, 62 in Dudu, 66 in Ghordi, 30 in Jib, 22 in Kulwanta, 20 in Majalta, 100 in Panchari, 66 in Ramnagar, 27 in Tikri and 47 in Udhampur apart from 99 toilets constructed out of spill over targets.
The rural development department has also constructed 188 toilets with 100 odd pre-fabricated in remote areas. Similarly 225 toilets in various schools are being given finishing touch to achieve 100 per cent target of 907 toilets in next 2 days, he added.
A daily monitoring cell was established for monitoring daily progress of each toilets unit and special teams were constituted for execution of work on ground, he said.
Teams of more than 400 officials from various departments have executed this mammoth task, he said, adding that 388 dysfunctional toilets have also been made functional in the district and work on remaining is undergoing.
