UDP revamps leadership

The opposition United
Democratic Party today revamped leadership at the Central Executive Meeting.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong and UDP West Shillong legislator Paul Lyngdoh, who had earlier expressed their eagerness to lead the party, were re-nominated as working presidents while Jemino Mawthoh is the new general secretary.
The party has also nominated five other working presidents which include legislators Metbah Lyngdoh, Titus Chyne besides Mooonlight Pariat, Maham Singh Sangma and Donbok Khymdeit.
The members which have been nominated to post of vice presidents include former minister JA Lyngdoh, O Areng, Alantry F Dkhar, Welcome Dkhar, Rona and legislator HB Nongsiej.

Addressing the media after the general council, Roy said, "We will try our best to ensure the party comes out as the single largest party (in the 2018 Assembly elections).

Roy, a former chief minister, predicted that the votes the Congress and the BJP are likely to be divided in the polls.

Lambasting the government's failure in this regard,
Lanong said, "What is their fate, when the state government has not applied the same yardstick in the case of the KHADC CEM."
Meanwhile, UDP senior working president was also of the opinion that if the post of an MDC is being declared as not an office of profit, "the big question that will arise" is if the state government misled the state assembly and people of the state and if so why.

"The state government will have to take full responsibility for misleading the people and the state Assembly," he stated.
