The circular from UGC came as it pointed out that colleges of Delhi University are facing a severe crisis regarding the re-engagement of ad hoc teachers at a time when colleges are moving from the four-year undergraduate programme to the three-year undergraduate programme.
"In order to overcome this crisis at this critical juncture, the colleges for the time being may re-engage those ad hoc teachers who fulfill the conditions of minimum elegibility as laid down by the UGC and were in place in the last working day of the previous academic session," it said.
The development came on the first working day of the new academic session today.
UGC's move was welcomed by the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) who said that it will help the ad hoc teachers get their dues and to ensure smooth running of courses.
The DU Teachers Association welcomed the letter sent by the UGC to all Principals of Delhi University colleges taking cognizance of the serious crisis in the varsity regarding reappointment of ad hoc teachers in the context of the transition to the three-year programme and the commencement of the new session today, a statement issued by DUTA said.
