The UGC Committee will visit the university shortly for the purpose, said a press release by the university Registrar Prof Dilip Kumar Patgiri.
Upon receiving the UGC grants, the university will be able to create facilities to undertake research in priority areas, boosting the academic ambience of the institution, the release said.
Cotton College State University was established by an Act of the Assam government and recognised by the UGC under Section 2f in 2013, it added.
Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act of 1956 makes the colleges eligible for central assistance from the Government of India.
