UK helping Bengal with climate finance, says diplomat

The UK government is helping West Bengal to get climate finance and fulfil its commitments on climate change, a senior diplomat said here today.
Speaking at an Indian Chamber of Commerce programme on environment, Amo Kalar, UK Deputy Trade and Investment Commissioner to India, said Oxford Policy Management Limited, funded by the UK government, is helping Indian states deliver commitments under their state level action plans on climate change.
He said they are also working closely with the state environment department on capacity building on climate finance and to help design energy and climate change projects so that the state can access national and international climate finance.

Kalar said transition towards a low carbon trajectory is difficult, but the British government is ready to help India in this context and also in areas of capacity building on climate change finance.
